Tomorrow

It's tomorrow. Please help if you can. This is the last time I'm participating, so you won't get another chance...

Less than a week to go. Help!

Only one week till the 2010 Revlon Run/Walk for Women. For various mundane reasons, this will probably be the last year I participate. So if you were ever thinking of supporting me, now's the time.

Please click on the link to my page and help out a bit. All funds raised go to fight cancer. Your donation is tax deductible. Whether it's $50 or $5, I really appreciate it. Lastly, my employer will match 50% of your donation.

If you don't want to use the online donation form, you could print out a form from the website (that's a link to a PDF) and mail that in--my bib number is 116, FYI--or find me and we can take care of it face to face.

Thanks!

Revlon Run/Walk, plea the second

[Is anyone still reading here? I've neglected LJ for Facebook and am not sure who's still around...]

Hi all! Less than two weeks to go.

I'm a little more than halfway to my fundraising goal, but pledges have stalled. I know--you see the post, think "Hm, maybe I'll donate," then move on with your day and never get back to it. I urge you to please not just scroll past my message this time, but rather to click on the link to my page and help out. Once again, all funds we raise will go to fight cancer. (And your donation IS tax deductible!) Whether it's $50 or $5, I really appreciate it. Lastly, my employer will match 50% of your donation.

If you are not comfortable using the online donation form, you can either print out a form from the website (that's a link to a PDF) and mail that in--my bib number is 116, FYI--or find me and we can take care of it face to face.

Please help if you can. If you have any questions, write to me. And please, if you've already supported someone else, or are yourself a participant, or for whatever other reason have grown weary of me pestering you, tell me to knock it off. I will, I promise! :-)

Thanks!

13th Annual Revlon Run/Walk

Hello! Thought you wouldn't hear from me this year, eh? This is the latest I've started fundraising. I do hope you will help me...

On Saturday, May 1st, I will be participating in the 13th Annual Revlon Run/Walk For Women. You can join me in the fight against women's cancers by making a pledge or donation on my behalf. Your pledge will help fund important research into the cause and cure of women's cancers, prevention, education and support service programs. All funds we raise will go to the cause, not just a percentage.

On a personal note, I had a mammogram scare this past December--I was called back for a second one because the nice people at Guttman Diagnostic had found an "anomaly" in my annual checkup films. I waited hours for the results and was the last one in the waiting area when they called me...to walk me into a room with THREE doctors, all of whom introduced themselves by name. I must have looked as terrified as I felt, because the first one immediately reassured me that all was well. But it might not have been. I think that too many women must have that same gut-punch fear all too often, and I hope that what we raise by walking can go towards reducing that fear.

Here's my fundraising page, where you can make a secure donation if you like. Every little bit will help! No guilt trips. There is no set donation amount. And it's tax deductible! In the past, my company matched 50% of what I raised, but I can't count on that happening this year. It might, it might not.

Thanks very much in advance! My apologies if my plea is not welcome. Also, PLEASE let me know if you've already donated to someone else--or are planning to. I'll go away, I promise!

Hubby sent me this at work last week. I have no idea why, but every time I look at it I fall apart in helpless laughter. It just kills me. So, maybe it'll give a few of you a giggle too. :-)

First blueberries!

Just picked these blueberries from the bushes in our garden yesterday morning. Yummy! I wonder where the catbirds all went; usually they beat us to it.

Photos of Charles Darwin's house

I took a lot of pictures at Down House, Kent, when I was there this past February. I just put a link to the album on Facebook but I'll put it here too. No captions yet, but maybe soon!

Here's one for now. )

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday!

This is it. The Revlon Run/Walk is THIS Saturday! And then you won't hear from me till next year. :-) Well, maybe ONE more message to tell you how it went--if it went. My ankle is still giving me trouble. 90% chance I'll do it.

Please be a part of the effort. Go to my fundraising page and help me meet my modest goal! My employer will match 50% of your tax-deductible donation--so if you pledged $20, it would really mean $30 raised!

To date, the Run/Walks (LA/NY) have distributed nearly 55 million dollars for cancer research, treatment, counseling and outreach programs. Thanks in part to these funds, new treatments are being developed and lives are being saved.

If you are not comfortable using the online donation form, you can either print out a form from the website and mail that in (my bib number is 204. Crucial that you include it!), or find me and we can take care of it face to face. Cash is always good!

Please help if you can. If you have any questions, write to me or stop by my office sometime. If you've already supported someone else, or are yourself a participant, or just want me to hush up already, tell me and I will, I promise! :-)

Thanks!

Less than two weeks before the Revlon Run/Walk!

So here we are, less than two weeks before the event! Considering how tight everyone's budgets are this year, I'm really impressed and touched by how quickly my little thermometer on the Run/Walk site has started to fill up. It's not at its total--please help move it up!

Once again, all funds we raise will go to fight cancer, and your donation IS tax deductible! Well, unless you're not in the US. Sorry. {{}} Whether it's $5 or $25 or (gasp) $55, I really appreciate it. Lastly, I have gotten confirmation from my/our employer that, economy notwithstanding, they will as always match 50% of your donation.

I hope you will visit my fundraising site and make a donation.

If you are not comfortable using the online donation form, you can either print out a form from the website and mail that in--my bib number is 204 (this is Very Important)--or find me and we can take care of it face to face. Cash works too, no worries.

Please help if you can. If you have any questions, write to me or stop by my office sometime. And please, please--if you've already supported someone else, or are yourself a participant, or for whatever other reason want me to leave you be, tell me to knock it off. I promise I will! :-)

Thanks!

(p.s. - apologies to those of you seeing this twice or thrice via Facebook and LJ!)

Very late start this year.

Hey all. I usually start fundraising for the Revlon Run/Walk for Women sometime in January, but one thing or another kept getting in my way this year. Part of it is worrying about the economy--people are really cutting back on charitable donations, and I'm sure if I set as high a goal as in previous years I'd have no hope of meeting it. So I'll set a lower goal and think good thoughts. Here goes...

On Saturday, May 2nd, I will be participating in the 12th Annual Revlon Run/Walk For Women. You can join me in the fight against women's cancers by making a pledge or donation on my behalf. Your pledge will help fund important research into the cause and cure of women's cancers, prevention, education and support service programs. All funds we raise will go to the cause, not just a percentage.

If you click here, you'll see my fundraising page, where you can donate online if you like. Every little bit will help! No guilt trips. I will simply leave it up to you. There is no set donation amount. And it's tax deductible! In the past, my company matched 50% of what I raised, but I can't count on that happening this year. It might, it might not.

Thanks.

Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

PBS poll, via [livejournal.com profile] rosenhaus

[Takes 1 second. Yes, really. Go, answer.]

PBS has an online poll posted asking if Sarah Palin is qualified. Apparently the right wing knew about this in advance and are flooding the voting with YES votes.

The poll will be reported on PBS and picked up by mainstream media. It can influence undecided voters in swing states. Please do two things -- takes 20 seconds.

1) Click on link and vote yourself.

Here's the link.

2) Then send this to every single Obama-Biden voter you know, and urge them to vote and pass it on.
The last thing we need is PBS saying their viewers think Sarah Palin is qualified.

Alert to NJ folk

After reading this, you may wish to vote absentee.

[editing to add a link to the relevant Division of Elections page.]

Here, have the first two paragraphs:

A judge of the New Jersey Superior Court has prohibited the scheduled release of a report on the security and accuracy of the Sequoia AVC Advantage voting machine. Last June, Judge Linda Feinberg ordered Sequoia Voting Systems to turn over its source code to me (serving as an expert witness, assisted by a team of computer scientists) for a thorough examination. At that time she also ordered that we could publish our report 30 days after delivering it to the Court--which should have been today.

Three weeks after we delivered the report, on September 24th Judge Feinberg ordered us not to release it. This is part of a lawsuit filed by the Rutgers Constitutional Litigation Clinic, seeking to decommission of all of New Jersey's voting computers. New Jersey mostly uses Sequoia AVC Advantage direct-recording electronic (DRE) models. None of those DREs can be audited: they do not produce a voter verified paper ballot that permit each voter to create a durable paper record of her electoral choices before casting her ballot electronically on a DRE. The legal basis for the lawsuit is quite simple: because there is no way to know whether the DRE voting computer is actually counting votes as cast, there is no proof that the voting computers comply with the constitution or with statutory law that require that all votes be counted as cast.

Will also send to the M list; sorry for duplication to those of you subscribed over there.

Arrrrr!!

This is via someone on a mailing list some (but not all) of you are on. I'm not sure if the writer has an LJ or not--could've sworn he did. Anyway:
