How to experience a whole new level of pain: Use fancy gadget to sharpen most of the household knives in the morning. Get said knives truly scary-sharp. Carefully check edge of the 8-inch Henckels knife--whoops, not carefully enough. Examine fingers and thumbs and see cuts so fine they're almost like paper cuts. Tape up the worst one and ignore the rest. Go about one's day (a bit of pond cleaning, a bit of sunning self in back yard, a bit of laundry, etc etc). Decide at end of day a "bloody mary" would be nice. (Quote marks because it's really just V8 and vodka). Cut piece of lime to wipe edge of glass, so as to apply very salty stuff to edge. You see where this is going.... OW OW OW. Lime AND salt on teeny tiny cuts. ::runs to sink, rinses hands:: Slug drink and think about making another one, but this time without the edge treatment.

Ow.

Yow.

I cut myself like that a few months ago, using a really sharp knife to cut up ingredients for a stir-fry, and again a few weeks ago while washing a steak knife, but being more of a beer kind of guy (but not the yuppie kind of beer where you stick a lime wedge into the bottle), I can only imagine the pain you must have felt.

Yeek. I'm relieved, though; I really thought it was "pond cleaning" that was going to be the issue by the end.

Yvonne did the same thing yesterday...lemon juice in a papercut at a Greek restaurant. OW! So that's where that papercut went!

How are you doing? Seems the only time we get to communicate is when it's getting close to you coming up here for Thanksgiving!

Oh wow, I meant to reply to you earlier. I'm horrible at staying in touch, I'm sorry!! How'm I doing? Well.... looking forward to our party next weekend (which we wish you could get to). Not getting enough sleep. Working at dayjob and working on freelance for design dept of dayjob. Doing yardwork. Needing more money--what else is new? Not pleased at the minor weight gain the past year has brought. Feeling a bit blue and blah in general, unfortunately; maybe it's a midlife crisis? I do wish we could've come up sometime over the summer. I really miss bumming around our old neighbourhood in the nice weather and would like to see T.O. sometime other than late November!!

What're you guys up to, other than what you've touched on in your LoCs?

I wish we were going to your party...it came up in conversation at Lisa Truant's annual pool party. I don't recall the invite, but no matter, we're doing some saving up for travel next year, and work is keeping us at home.

Convention wise...Yvonne and I have retired from conrunning entirely. However, Yvonne will be in charge of the space and science programme track at Ad Astra in 2008. I still spend most of my free time writing for fanzines.

Work...Yvonne is wrapping up a contract with Castrol Canada, and with luck, may start up soon full-time with either Virgin Mobile or Bayer Pharmaceuticals. I can't find full-time work, so a combination of part-time
and occasional jobs keeps me going. I still work evenings at the Globe and Mail, occasional work with BBW, just started freelance training with Publicis, and may have an interview next week with the CNIB.

Yvonne and I celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary next May! We went to Dallas for the International Space Development Conference this year and had a good time. We plan to go to Las Vegas to a fanzine convention and visit with friends next April.

It's been a hot summer this year, and we've been so busy, we haven't had the time to go the Beaches and bum around. We miss it, and wish you were here to enjoy the summer.
